A new image of Michael Keaton and Leslie Grace on the set of Batgirl has been revealed and it might be the best look we will ever get at their characters meeting in the movie. With Batgirl planned as part of the DCEU, it would have featured Keaton reprising his role of Batman alongside Grace’s Barbara Gordon. The film was recently axed by Warner Bros. Discovery amid controversy even though filming had already been completed.
On Instagram, co-director Adil El Arbi, who helmed the movie with Bilall Fallah, has shared a new image from the production. The photo shows Arbi standing in between Grace and Keaton, seemingly directing a scene with the two characters coming face to face. It’s a scene we can only imagine as word is Batgirl will never be released, either in theaters or on streaming. You can see the photo below.
“We are saddened and shocked by the news,” Arbi and Fallah said in a statement when the news was announced, going on to praise Grace, Keaton, and the rest of the film’s production. “Our amazing cast and crew did a tremendous job and worked so hard to bring Batgirl to life. We are forever grateful to have been part of that team. It was a dream to work with such fantastic actors like Michael Keaton, JK Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Jacob Scipio, Corey Johnson, Rebecca Front and especially the great Leslie Grace, who portrayed Batgirl with so much passion, dedication and humanity. In any case, as huge fans of Batman since we were little kids, it was a privilege and even an honor to have been part of the DCEU, even if it was for a brief moment. Batgirl for life.”
New Images of Jacob Scipio in Batgirl Have Also Been Revealed
In the canceled movie, Jacob Scipio played Gotham mob boss Anthony Bressi, and more sneak peeks have been revealed at this character. The actor had shared an image of himself with Grace’s Batgirl in the film, and while we don’t know exactly what is happening, it looks to be a fiery scene. Scipio shared the image on his own Instagram Stories and you can see that photo below.
Meanwhile, Arbi had continued to share more about posts Batgirl and its unfortunate cancellation news on his Instagram account. This includes another photo of Scipio on the set alongside Arbi, who appears to be plotting out the next scene with the actor. You can see that image below as well.
The Batgirl cast would have also featured Brendan Fraser as the supervillain Firefly. Many of his fans have also expressed their disappointment over Batgirl getting axed as there had been a lot of excitement about seeing the fan favorite actor in the villainous role. In his case, Fraser’s career will be moving forward with appearances in upcoming films by Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky, but his turn as the Gotham City supervillain is something we will never get to see.
