Simon Pegg has appeared in four different Mission: Impossible films, starting in 2006 with Mission Impossible: III. It’s been 16 years since his debut as Benji Dunn, and the actor still shares a strong love for the franchise. According to the Rotten Tomatoes score, the films have continued to improve with each installment following the second entry. The final two movies, Dead Reckoning Part One and Two were expected to be the last two Mission: Impossible entries with Tom Cruise; however, that’s not confirmed just yet. Nevertheless, the cast and crew are treating the two-parter as a grand send-off, bringing the franchise to new heights.
In an interview with DiscussingFilm, Pegg talks about crowds returning to theaters with Top Gun: Maverick and how Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is ‘built specifically for the cinema.’ His full quote can be read below:
“I’m very excited, obviously. I’m glad in a way, I think the success of Top Gun: Maverick has proven to everybody that the right decisions were made in terms of how things have been held back or delayed. Obviously, we need some separation between Top Gun and Mission: Impossible, but they dropped Top Gun at exactly the right moment for it to hit as powerfully. I mean, not least because it’s a great movie, but it just played so well in terms of getting people back to the theater. By the time Dead Reckoning Part One swings around next year, I think people will be fully back in the movie houses if they’re not already, and we’ll see something utterly spectacular that’s built specifically for the cinema .
Audiences can get the full cinema experience when Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One blasts into theaters on July 14, 2023.
Dead Reckoning Received Delays Just Like Maverick
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has garnered a lengthy delay history, similar to Top Gun: Maverick. Pegg cited the delays to the films as necessary to make a great product, and he was certainly correct in that Maverick’s case. Dead Reckoning was initially slated for a July 23, 2021, release date; however, following the COVID-19 pandemic, Part One was pushed to November of the same year.
The dates were moved once again, moving Part One to May 27, 2022, and the epic conclusion to July 7, 2023; however, these dates wouldn’t remain long. So the next installment was pushed to September 30, 2022, and then one final time to the current release of July 14, 2023. Part Two is set to release a year later, on June 28, 2024. Fans are hoping for the existing dates to be finalized. However, the long delay history of the film leaves anything to chance.
According to Simon Pegg, audiences are in for a film worth the wait Dead Reckoning Part One releases next year, and hopefully, the delays will have the same effect on Mission: Impossible as they did with Top gun.
